Art makes me feel and helps me think. As my eyes wonder, so my heart moves.
Although I enjoy a great deal of what abstract art offers: its shape, texture, colour, form, and composition, art offers a broader journey than my senses alone enjoy. Beauty is more than skin deep...
Without the addition of language, I feel abstract art as limited, yet less so as soon as I give it a name.
When I view the image above, its title interacts with the image, and it is this interaction that creates the completed artwork. The abstract becomes meaningful in a way that can be shared more reliably. With the addition of language, the artwork encourages me to think of the fragments of what I am: my body, mind, and spirit, and how they too combine to make this single individual I know as myself.
I look again, and I think of the faded yellow circle that is positioned under the arch as a face looking out of a window. I think of how my seeing is but one element of my being. As I gaze, I think on, and my feelings awaken...
