One of a series of photographs taken in the great hall of The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
I am certain the still photograph will remain a significant creative medium despite the seductions of the moving image. A still provides the essential pause for the heart and mind in a world of turbulence and impulse.
As I walk through the central hall in the National Museum of Scotland, my favourite building interior, I absorb its light, its tone and beauty. I walk in slow and mindful breath. I try to take my time as best I can, I linger until the mystery of this place settles deep within me. If I am fortunate I will capture the touch of its spirit with an image, and then in time portray with words what thoughts and feelings such a place has left me with. This whereabouts of curiosity and gaze, of blinding white and shadowland...
